Thank you for your interest to possibly exchange one or more students with us. District 3350 covers central Thailand: all of Bangkok and about 250 km North & Nortwest up to Nakorn Sawan.
From our experience we are well aware of the problems in selecting a new partner district for youth exchange. The mere desire of Rotarians to exchange students with a certain country is not enough to be successful: Existing prejudice and wrong images of certain countries in certain other countries makes exchanges between certain geographical areas almost impossible. Students and even more often their parents have only certain popular countries in mind as a destination: other countries are not considersed and some are absolutely unthinkable. This means the success of the Rotary Youth Exchange Programme is often a victim of its own necessity.
The key for success can only be to open new doors and to make the first step in a new relatioship. If no Thai is willing to go to South America, we still welcome an outstanding Brazilian inbound student to show us that Brazil is a great country and its people are just as nice as Europeans or North Americans. If no German student is willing to go to Thailand because of the rather negative image which has been created by the German media: Please accept one of our students and let him or her tell the Germans what Thailand and Thai people are really like.
So no matter wher in the world you are located: If you have a great student who wants to come to Thailand for a year we will do what we can to host him or her, no matter whether we find an outbound to go to your district! If you are willing and able to host one of our students but cannot send one of yours: Please let us know and we will try to find a qualified outbound student we can send to you. Our hopes are in long terms to develop two way exchanges out of one way exchanges, and to make the Rotary Youth Exchange Program work!
To show tolerance for a different culture, different customs and habits is the first step, to develop understanding will be the second step, and to end up with appreciation and love for the difference is in most cases a natural consequence. To watch the change of a young person for the better in only one year makes Youth Exchange one of the most rewarding programmes of Rotary International.
